The 16th FIAP International Seminar will be attended by renowned experts, and will be held on April 12 and 13, 2018, in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. Save the date.

The International Federation of Pension Fund Administrators (FIAP) and the Colombian Association of Pension and Unemployment Fund Managers (ASOFONDOS), are jointly organizing the 16th FIAP International Seminar and the 11th FIAP – ASOFONDOS Congress, to be held on April 12 and 13, 2018, at the Hilton Hotel in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

The FIAP International Seminar annually brings together the 15 Pension Fund Associations of the different FIAP member countries, as well as a similar number of mutual funds that manage pension savings, in an academic environment for discussing the challenges facing pension systems worldwide and analyzing proposals for resolving these issues. Moreover, the FIAP – ASOFONDOS International Congress has become one of the most important professional and academic events in Colombia in matters related to long-term savings, pensions and capital markets, the financial sector and the macroeconomic situation. Given the nature of the individual savings industry, topics such as the development of the labor market and social policies will also be part of the agenda to be discussed.

On the occasion, experts, academics and political leaders will meet to discuss the present and future of relevant issues such as pensions, economy, democracy, among other issues that will dominate the political agenda in Latin America and the world.

On this occasion, this joint event will be attended by renowned speakers, such as:

  1. Rafael Puyol, PhD in Geography and Chancellor of the Complutense University of Madrid between 1995 and 2003. He is one of the leading authorities in human geography in Spain, with significant experience in demography, focusing on migration and population aging. Puyol is a leading global authority whose perspective is key for understanding population dynamics in the world today, as well as its effects on the development, and particularly the sustainability, of Social Security systems.
  2. Klaus Schmidt-Hebbel, PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), former Chief Economist of the OECD and Professor at the Catholic University of Chile. He has vast experience in capital markets, the macroeconomic environment and pensions, issues that will be decisive for the future of the global and regional economies.
  3. Xavier Sala-i-Martin, PhD in Economics from Harvard University, Chief Economic Counselor of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Professor of Economics at Columbia University. His experience as a professor, researcher and consultant, makes him an authority in the comprehensive analysis of pension systems and putting forward reform proposals.
  4. Ricardo Hausmann, PhD in Economy from Cornell University, director of the Center for International Development and professor at Harvard University. Professor Hausmann is not only known as a brilliant economist, but also for his strong criticism of the economic policies of the recent populist governments in the region, particularly Venezuela, his country of birth. With the impending presidential elections in Colombia, his knowledge and vehement defense of liberty and democracy will provide an interesting point of view regarding the opportunities and challenges facing Latin American economies.
