The Analysis and Research Department of the Mexican Association of AFORES (AMAFORE) regularly publishes reports on the performance of the Retirement Savings System (SAR) in Mexico.
The last published report is a summary of events in 2015. 2015 marked the 18th anniversary of SAR’s institutional commitment to managing the long-term savings of Mexican workers, for the construction of a pension on retirement. As of December 31, 2015, the system managed MXN 2,541 billion (approx. USD 146,888 million (*)), corresponding to 14% of GDP, representing a net increase of MXN 167,6 billion (approx. US $ 9,689 million (*)) with respect to closure in 2014.
At the end of the year, the system managed 54.4 million individual accounts, a net increase of 3.1% compared to the end of 2014. Of this total, 68% are the accounts of workers enrolled in the Afores, and 32% belong to assigned workers.
At the end of 2015, the system achieved an annual average yield of 2.5%. The annual nominal historical yield is 11.3%, and 5.3% discounting inflation.
