Pension Note No.7: The importance of Voluntary Pension Saving, key factors for its development and some positive experiences

THE PENSION NOTE: THE IMPORTANCE OF VOLUNTARY PENSION SAVING, KEY FACTORS FOR ITS DEVELOPMENT AND SOME POSITIVE EXPERIENCES IS NOW AVAILABLE

This brief article describes the underlying reasons for the need for voluntary pension savings products, as a mechanism for improving the pensions of workers, taking demographic changes (increase in life expectancy) and low contribution densities into account. It also highlights the opportunities for the voluntary pension products market in Latin America (longevity and growth of the middle class) and key factors for the development of voluntary savings that have been described in the recent literature, derived from the experiences of other countries, such as Chile, the United States, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
