Key parameters of the public PAYGO systems in selected countries – August 2018

FIAP published a table comparing the main parameters of the public PAYGO systems in selected countries.

The main trends observed are:

  • The retirement age is the same for men and women in most countries.
  • Contribution rates vary between 5% (Jamaica) and 37% (Hungary), and are 20.4% on average.
  • Net replacement rates range from 29% (United Kingdom) to 100% (the Netherlands) and are 70% on average.
  • Most countries require a minimum number of years of contribution to the system to obtain a full pension, fluctuating between 20 years (Panama) and 45 years (Ireland). Other countries, in turn, require a minimum number of years of contribution to access a partial pension, ranging from 5 years (Germany) to 25 years (France). Members who do not meet the minimum number of years of contribution required, do not receive a pension.
