FIAP successfully participated in the 2022 Oxford Congress

Fide’s 2nd International Congress on Nationalism, Populism and Identities was held between April 4 and 6. On this occasion, FIAP participated in Panel 2: Impact of Nationalist/Populist Policies on the Financing of South American Pension Systems: Status Quo and Reform Proposals.

The panel was chaired and moderated by Ángel Martínez-Aldama, Chairman of the Association of Collective Investment Agencies and Pension Funds (INVERCO).

Juan Ramón Caridad, Head of Iberia and Latam at GAM Asset Management and Patron of the  FIDE Foundation, delivered the opening and welcoming address.

The panelists were: Guillermo Arthur, President of the International Federation of Pension Fund Administrators (FIAP International); Santiago Montenegro, Chairman of the Colombian Association of Pension and Unemployment Fund Managers (Asofondos of Colombia); and René Novellino, Executive Director of the Salvadoran Association of Pension Fund Managers (ASAFONDOS).

The Panel responded to questions on the following topics:

– The individually funded systems operating in Latin America.

– Individually funded systems vs PAYGO systems.

– Imperative reforms for improving pensions.

A final document with conclusions and proposals will be prepared in the next stage of this congress. The document will be made available to the public as soon as possible.
