Cusco-Peru, May 15, 2014. After discussing the issues related to pension savings risks and the extension of coverage, discussion centered on the panel on “Results and Risk Management,” moderated by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Director of Rohatyn Group, former Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru.
Oscar Vela, former CIO of AFP Provida, Chile; Carlos Ramírez, Chairman of the National Commission for the Retirement Savings System (CONSAR), of Mexico; Pedro Grados, CEO, AFP Pro Futuro, Peru, and Marie Bríere, Head of the Investment Research Center, AMUNDI, of France, also attended as panelists.
Graham Goodhew, Director of JPMorgan Asset Management, of Luxembourg, spoke on the issue, explaining that risk is a part of investment worldwide, but an ongoing problem is that investors do not understand the investments they commit to, which hinders their work.
Hence, one of the ways of coping with this issue is to identify the risk and then proceed to manage it and build ongoing confidence in the market.
Pedro Grados, CEO of AFP Pro Futuro, stressed that financial education is a very important issue which is often ignored, but which should now be highlighted.
Carlos Ramírez, Chairman of the National Commission for the Retirement Savings System (CONSAR), said that one of the challenges facing Latin America is the issue of savings, and that encouraging savings would be a tremendous contribution in matters of financial development.
One of the conclusions was that choosing safe options does not always ensure the desired outcomes, which is why well-thought-out investment plans that consider the risks involved are necessary.
