FIAP Director is elected chairman of the European Federation for Retirement Provision (EFRP)

The member of the Steering Committee of the International Federation of Pension Fund Administrators (FIAP), Ángel Martínez – Aldama, was elected the new chairman of the European Federation for Retirement Provision in its General Assembly held in Lisbon this week, for a period of two years.

Ángel Martínez – Aldama is currently the Director General of the Association of Collective Investment Agencies and Pension Funds (INVERCO), and Secretary of the World Pension Association (WPA), based in Madrid. He has held these posts for the past four years together with the first vice – chairmanship of the EFRP.

In the twenty – six years the EFRP has existed, the chair has always been held by Dutchmen and Englishmen, with the two sole exceptions being an Irish and Belgian term of office.

The European Federation for Retirement Provision, based in Brussels, has sixteen European Union members plus Croatia, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, and among its objectives is the development of pension funds in Europe. In order to achieve this, the Federation has been promoting the approval of a European Pension Board of Directors since 1990, which finally occurred in 2003. This Board of Directors constitutes a key element in the sector’s future with regard to its legal and financial legislation.
