Guillermo Arthur, current President of the International Federation of Pension Fund Administrators (FIAP), was elected Vice President of the Employers’ Group.
Monday, November 30, 2020 Guillermo Arthur, who was the President of the Chilean Association of AFP’s for 15 years, will play an important role in the “Tripartite Round Table on pension trends and reforms,” organized by the International Labor Organization, ILO.
Arthur, who is currently the President of the International Federation of Pension Fund Administrators (FIAP), was elected Vice President of the employers’ group of this Tripartite Technical Round Table, which will address the design and reform of pension systems to discuss worldwide trends in these matters.
Guillermo Arthur was grateful for his appointment, pointing out that this Round Table will serve to encourage the exchange of points of view in pension matters, from a technical standpoint. “We applaud the ILO for generating these spaces for discussion. On behalf of FIAP, it is important to point out the way in which the experience of the private systems has contributed to increasing the financial, fiscal and economic sustainability of the pension systems in the mid-and long-term, increasing coverage in the active and passive stages of workers, with accumulated funds corresponding to 70% in profits and only 30% in contributions.”
Chris Roberts, Director of Social and Economic Policy, of the Canadian Labor Congress, in turn, was elected Vice President of the Workers’ Group.
The Tripartite Round Table will meet between Monday, November 30 and next December 4, serving as an instance for discussing and sharing worldwide trends in pension reforms, enabling each one of the parties to learn from the experiences of countries in the design, extension and reform of their pension systems, as well as debating political and reform options in accordance with the fundamental principles and minimum levels of protection promoted by the ILO.
The Round Table will be attended by groups of workers, employers and representatives of the governments of the 14 invited countries, from five different continents. Apart from Chile, Argentina, Canada and Mexico will be representing the Americas; participating European countries will include Bulgaria, France and the Russian Federation; Asian countries will include China, Indonesia and Japan; African countries will include the Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Tunisia, and Jordanian will be representing the Middle East.
