Comments of the FIAP President on the occasion of celebrating the 30 years of the Chilean AFP system

On November 29, 2011, the Chilean Association of AFPs celebrated the 30th anniversary of the individually funded savings system which began in 1981, decades ahead of other countries in resolving the financing problems that are now critically affecting the developed countries with PAYGO systems.

The book “The Story of a Dream,” written by the economist Jose Manuel Valente, was launched on the occasion of this celebration. It describes the difficulties and enterprise involved in putting the individually funded system in place in Chile in 1981.

The ceremony was conducted by the President of the Chilean Association of AFPs, Mr. Guillermo Arthur and attended by different authorities, such as ministers of state, deputy secretaries, members of parliament, businessmen, trade union leaders and academics of Chile.

FIAP has prepared a brief note (download at the bottom of this page), where the main statements of the FIAP President in the press are reflected, on the occasion of this great celebration, as well as about the book “The Story of a Dream “.
