Chile is one of the countries that is aging the most. And it does so quickly. In fact, it is projected that by 2050, 3 out of every 10 inhabitants will be 60 years old or older (32.1%). However, this reality, rather than posing a problem, opens up a world of opportunities under a concept that is beginning to gain strength: Silver Economy.
According to the definition of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Silver Economy (or Silver Economy) “is one linked to demographic change produced by the aging of the population whose focus is on the needs and demands of older people”.
Following the IDB’s vision, “aging is often understood as an additional burden for society. However, the great challenges that it implies bring with them opportunities for economic development with the generation of new ventures and job opportunities, as well as a greater economic contribution from seniors, given that better health conditions allow for a more productive longevity.”
For this reason, from SeniorLab -with the support of Colab and the Center for the Study of Old Age and Aging– they have set themselves the challenge of organizing the 1st Silver Economy Summit in the country, an event to be held over 2 days in October 2022 and which will include talks and exhibitions by experts, both national and international; networking spaces for the ecosystem of innovation and active old age; presence of ventures and companies with a focus on the 60+ public, and another series of characteristics that will make it possible to generate a macro vision of how society is preparing for this new future.
In addition, the summit will be part of the International Month of the Elderly, enabling new perspectives and knowledge from the public, private and academic sectors around the meaning of the Silver Economy.
